About Khecheopalri Lake:
Today, this lake is one of the wonders of nature as it was formed by the force of ancient glaciers and took some 3500 years. The lake almost looks like a volcano pit with thickly wooded hills on all sides. Serene small villages, as well as many guest houses, are scattered around the lake. The lake covers a total area of 3.79 hectares. The name of Khecheopalri also pronounced as ‘Catch-a-Perry’, means ‘the Heaven of Padmasambhava.’
Buddhist and Muslims came here to fulfill their wishes. They believe wishes made here too come true. It is also believed that the water of the lake possesses curative properties. The most interesting thing about the lake is that there were no leaves on the water, even though it is surrounded by forest. It is believed that birds do the arduous job of removing leaves from the lake.
