Assam is located in the northeastern part of the country
and has an area of 30,285 square miles (78,438 square
kilometres). It is bounded to the north by the kingdom
of Bhutan and the state of Arunachal Pradesh; to the
east by the states of Nagaland and Manipur; to the south
by the states of Mizoram and Tripura; and to the west
by the state of Meghalaya, Bangladesh, and the state
of West Bengal
The Brahmaputra River valley is the dominant physical
feature of Assam. The river enters Assam near Sadiya
in the extreme northeast and runs westward across the
length of Assam for nearly 450 miles before turning
south to enter the plains of Bangladesh.
The average temperature is moderate, about 84 degrees
F (29 degress C) in the hottest month of August. The
average valley temperature in January is 61 degrees
F (16 degrees C). In this season, the climate of the
valley is marked by heavy fogs and a little rain.

Arunachal Pradesh attained its statehood
on 20th February 1987. It is situated in the North-Eastern
part of India with 83743 sq. kms area and has a long
international border with Bhutan to the west (160 km),
China to the north and north-east (1,080 km) and Myanmar
to the east (440 km). It stretches from snow-capped
mountains in the north to the plains of Brahmaputra
valley in the south. Arunachal is the largest state
area-wise in the northeast region, even larger than
Assam, which is the most populous.
It is situated between latitude 26 r 30' N and 29 r
30 ' N and longitude 91 r 30' E and 97 r 30' E. Itanagar
is the capital of Arunachal Pradesh and located at an
altitude of 530 meters above MSL. It is named after
Itafort meaning fort of bricks built in 14th century
AD.

Meghalaya is a sylvan beauty of breathtaking beauty.
Meghalaya literally means "Abode (alaya) of the
Clouds (megha)". The name describes the climatic
phenomenon that brings torrents of rain in this region.
Meghalaya is a region of great scenic beauty: a panorama
of lush, undulating hills, fertile valleys, waterfalls,
sparkling mountain streams and lakes. It was declared
the 21st State of India on 21st January 1972. it united
the areas of the Khasi, Jaintia and Garo Hills. With
an approximate area of 22, 429 square kilometers Meghalaya
is bounded by Assam in the North and the East, and the
plains of Bangladesh in the South and West. The capital
is the hill town of Shillong. The State is divided into
three hilly regions---the Garo Hills (Western Meghalaya),
the Khasi Hills (Central Meghalaya), and the Jaintia
Hills (Eastern Meghalaya).
The State of Meghalaya is directly influenced
by the southwestern monsoon that originates in the Bay
of Bengal. The monsoon begins in May and continues until
October. Mawsynram in East Khasi Hills district has
one of the heaviest rainfalls in the world with a July
average of 959 cms.
Meghalaya occupies a mountainous plateau of great scenic
beauty where the average elevation is just under 2000
m (6500 ft). One of the wettest regions on earth, Cherrapunji
lies 56 km from Shillong; it has mind-boggling annual
rainfall average of 450 inches (11,430 mm) over a 74-year
period, the highest ever recorded in Asia and the second
highest in the world. The climate of Meghalaya is generally
mild. In August the mean temperature at Shillong (in
the Khasi Hills) is 70º F (21º C); it falls
to 49º F (9.5º C) in January. Annual rainfall
in Shillong, only 50 miles from Cherrapunji, is 92 inches.

to Sangai, a rare species of deer and Siroy Lily, the
only terrestrial lily grown on the hill tops of Siroi
hill, St. Clair Grimwood described it as " A Pretty
Place more beautiful than many show places of the world."
Late Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru paid a fitting tribute
by describing it as "Jewel of India".
Manipur is bounded by Nagaland in the north, Mizoram
in the south, Upper Myanmar in the east and Cachar District
of Assam in the west.
